DDA Forensics Engineer Shared Insights on Distinguishing Wind and Storm Surge Damage
MIAMI — Dr. Krishna Sai Vutukuru, Ph.D., P.E., DFE, Civil and Structural Engineer at DDA Forensics, presented at the South Florida Claims Association (SFCA) Day of Education on May 29. The annual event brought together insurance claims professionals, adjusters and industry experts for a full day of continuing education and professional development.
Vutukuru presented “Wind vs. Storm Surge Damage: Case Studies from Hurricane Helene,” which examined how wind and storm surge affect coastal residential structures and provided attendees with practical guidance for evaluating storm-related property damage.
The course focused on the role of adjusters and inspectors in recognizing damage, understanding hurricane and coastal storm forces, and distinguishing between damage caused by wind, waves and storm surge. Through real-world case studies, attendees gained insight into how different storm mechanisms impact buildings and how engineering principles can assist in determining the cause of damage.
“As severe weather events continue to impact coastal communities, accurately identifying the cause of damage remains critical to the claims process,” Vutukuru said. “Understanding how wind and storm surge interact with structures helps claims professionals make more informed decisions and supports more accurate damage assessments.”
Committed to advancing industry knowledge and supporting continuing education opportunities for insurance professionals, DDA was a proud repeat sponsor of the annual event.
“Educational events like the SFCA Day of Education create valuable opportunities for claims professionals to learn from technical experts and share best practices.
