DDA Forensics Engineers Present Hurricane Damage Insights at FDLA Florida Liability Claims Conference

Session Shares Tips on Identifying Wind and Storm Surge Damage

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — DDA Forensics engineers Dr. Manuel Matus and Dr. Krishna Sai Vutukuru joined Asika Patel, partner at Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A., as featured presenters at the Florida Defense Lawyers Association (FDLA) Florida Liability Claims Conference (FLCC), held June 10–12 in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

Their presentation, “Wind vs. Storm Surge Damage: Case Studies from Hurricane Helene,” provided insurance professionals, attorneys, adjusters, and inspectors with practical insights into evaluating hurricane-related property damage in coastal environments. Using real-world examples, the session examined methods for identifying and distinguishing damage caused by extreme winds versus storm surge, two forces that often impact structures simultaneously during major storm events.

The presentation also explored hurricane behavior, wind science, forensic investigation techniques, and the ways severe weather events affect residential coastal buildings. Attendees gained a deeper understanding of the engineering principles used to determine causation and support accurate damage assessments.

“As catastrophic storms continue to impact coastal communities, understanding the differences between wind and storm surge damage is critical for accurate investigations and claims evaluations. Our engineers continue to advance industry knowledge through research, education, and technical expertise, and we are proud to see them sharing their insights with professionals across the legal and insurance industries,” said Jonathon Diego, Managing Partner, DDA Forensics.
