DDA Forensics Takes the Stage at PLRB Claims Conference

Jonathon Diego and Dr. Ziad Azzi Deliver Insights on Wind Damage Forensics and Claim Documentation

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. —  DDA Forensics Managing Partner Jonathon Diego and Director of Engineering Dr. Ziad Azzi presented at the Property & Liability Resource Bureau (PLRB) Claims Conference & Insurance Services Expo, held March 22 – 25 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center. The annual event featured expert-led sessions, continuing education opportunities, and a large-scale expo showcasing tools and services that support the claims industry.

“It was a privilege to attend and present at this year’s PLRB Claims Conference. I can’t say enough about my fellow presenters. Aside from just being wonderful humans, they each share a collective passion for their craft, a desire to teach and elevate others. It was truly a wonderful experience from start to finish. I look forward to joining them again. Looking forward to next year,” said Diego.

Diego and Azzi, alongside, Mia Nedd, Claims Manager, delivered the presentation “From Gust to Guidelines: Wind Damage Forensics and Claim Documentation,” which examined how the line between wind-related damage and pre-existing conditions can become blurred during inspections. The session highlighted how improved documentation, engineering analysis, and cross-disciplinary collaboration can help strengthen claim accuracy, reduce disputes, and improve overall claim outcomes.

“It’s always energizing to step into a room full of industry professionals who are not only highly knowledgeable but also genuinely invested in moving the field forward. While sharing insights and perspectives is rewarding, the real value comes from the conversations that happen before and after the session. Having so many claims’ professionals interested in understanding basic wind science, wind engineering principles, wind flow around buildings and how to discern wind from nonwind-related damage to residential roofs is really refreshing and will help move the industry forward by reducing fraud and raising awareness,” said Azzi.

This panel-based session provided real-world examples of how inconsistent documentation and claims handling practices can derail even technically sound assessments. From understanding how wind interacts with various roof structures to recognizing deferred maintenance and environmental impacts, attendees gained actionable tools to identify damage, avoid common missteps, and improve claim inspections.

The four-day conference brought together claims professionals and service providers from across U.S. to network, strengthen connections, and advance their expertise in the property and casualty insurance industry. Sessions covered a wide range of topics, including claims handling, construction defects, building codes, litigation, subrogation, appraisal, risk management, claims technology and automation, and large property loss.
